LLLHelp1: ?
LLLChat1: Go Ahead LLLHelp1
LLLHelp1: I am a Leader in California. I am finding an increasing amount of
mothers

LLLHelp1: who come to me for support - not for breastfeeding help
LLLHelp1: but for mentorship.
LLLHelp1: Can you speak to how I can do this? I have never been in this role
before.

GSPamelaEmmer: Today's mothers need a formula to advance intellect, promote health, and
develop character. This is

GSPamelaEmmer: a very big job. Helping children learn to organized thought and coordinate
action will accomplish

GSPamelaEmmer: this . Actually, organizing thought and coordinating action is a definition of
intelligence for the

GSPamelaEmmer: 21st century. How many times do we find ourselves doing one thing and
saying the opposite.

GSPamelaEmmer: For example, we go to work, and then complain that we do not want to
be there.

GSPamelaEmmer: Children learn from what they see. Our actions will always speak louder
than our words.

LLLHelp1: So would this also be true for mothers? As they see us in La Leche
League is a way of modeling?

LLLChat1: We would like to thank Pamela Emmer for this chance to chat with us.

: It's my pleasure.

LLLChat1

LLLChat1
: How has the role of mentor changed in our society?
GSPamelaEmmer: Everything we do is being watched by someone. Unfortunately our
children today may be watching

GSPamelaEmmer: more of the world than they are of the family. Therefore, we have a very
important role to play.
MsAHS4ABF: ?
LLLChat1
: GA MsAHS4ABF
MsAHS4ABF: should we be specific & point out what they need to know
MsAHS4ABF
: not just set an example
GSPamelaEmmer
: I think we need to be specific about how we deal with our own situations.
For example

GSPamelaEmmer: my specialty is brain research, and I have developed 4 Empowerment
Principles.

GSPamelaEmmer: 1) Everything happens for a reason, and every situation will bring me
more.

GSPamelaEmmer: 2) I'm always getting what I want.
GSPamelaEmmer: 3) The mind creates. What I think about will materailize.
GSPamelaEmmer: 4) What I say to or about others is always in some way about me.
GSPamelaEmmer: By living my life according to these principles, I model enlarging my vision
of what is

GSPamelaEmmer: possible rather than getting stuck on the day to day problems that the lk\eft
brain is

GSPamelaEmmer: more accustomed to.
MsAHS4ABF: ? re # 2
LLLChat1
: GA, MsAHS4ABF
GSPamelaEmmer: I'm often asked if this means that if I am hit by a car does that mean that I
wanted to be hit.
MsAHS4ABF: comment about those who do not like what they get
GSPamelaEmmer
: My question back is, "What were you thinking about at the time of the
accident."

GSPamelaEmmer: When we are balanced, and not ruminating over some stressful situation
from

GSPamelaEmmer: the past or fear about the future, we seldom have car accidents. This is
true dispite the

GSPamelaEmmer: fact that we sometimes don't even remember if we stopped for red light on
the way home from work.

GSPamelaEmmer: Our right brain, more spatial, takes care and protects us by an
unconsicious awareness.

GSPamelaEmmer: Ruminating over a problem in the left hemispher causes the right, which is
more

GSPamelaEmmer: sensitive to emotion, to prepare the body for fight or flight instead of it's
usual spatial

GSPamelaEmmer: job.

LLLChat1: Go Ahead IngramInAR
IngramInAR: so, is what you are saying is that if we think too much about haveing a car
accident, for

IngramInAR: eample, in a way we cause it to happen becuase of the way the brain is
functioning?

GSPamelaEmmer: Yes, the brain is our of natural balance. The right brain really can be used
to visualize.
MsAHS4ABF: ?
GSPamelaEmmer
: Visualization is inspiring. It allows us to get in touch with our heart's
desires and our own

GSPamelaEmmer: unique qualities. It is a shame mankind does not know more about how to
use it for day to day

GSPamelaEmmer: situation. That is what my passion is to teach other how to use there mind
(highest

GSPamelaEmmer: ideas) to direct the brains biological functioning.
GSPamelaEmmer: I see the mind as a conscious committment, and the brain as a function
organ.

LLLChat1: go ahead msAHS4ABF
MsAHS4ABF: how do your 4 principles relate to us as mentors for LLL
GSPamelaEmmer
: They give you guidelines in how to model self-understanding,
self-acceptance, and self-actualization

LLLChat1: what are some baby steps that we can take to accomplish this?
GSPamelaEmmer: Pay attention to your own speech: speak in first person, present tense,
positive language (negative

LLLChat5: When parenting how do you know when to say "No" to a child?
GSPamelaEmmer: I have three rules:
GSPamelaEmmer: First, when it's a matter of safety.
GSPamelaEmmer: Second, when the child is whining or displaying other behavior that tells
me that the child is not

LLLChat5: ?
GSPamelaEmmer: clear about what it is he/she wants.
GSPamelaEmmer: I then say no to the whining, and ask the child to find a quiet place (his/her
room) to get clear

GSPamelaEmmer: on what they really want. This encourages them to honor their OWN
heart, not the desires of

GSPamelaEmmer: others. This is especially important during adolescence or pre-adolescence
when following the crowd

GSPamelaEmmer: is a detriment.
GSPamelaEmmer: Beginning to listen to your own internal voice at an early age is a powerful
tool.

GSPamelaEmmer: I also use "NO" when children are making their "wants" about others and
not themselves.

GSPamelaEmmer: Making your wants about others encourages victimhood. Victimhood is
not something

GSPamelaEmmer: we wish our children to exhibit.
LLLChat5: Can you suggest a good mission statement for our family that insures internal
control?

GSPamelaEmmer: To always help each other identify their internal wants and support a plan
for

GSPamelaEmmer: their attainment.
LLLChat1: Pamela, could you give us the third rule for when you say no to a child?
GSPamelaEmmer: Rule number three is: saying no when the child makes their wants about
others (outside of them-

GSPamelaEmmer: selves). This encourages them to be externally motivated and naot
internally motivated.

LLLChat1: Sorry for the repeat I missed it
GSPamelaEmmer: I am getting the hang of chatting myself!
LLLChat5: ?What is the difference between internal and external control?
LLLChat1: My left brain was distracting my right there for a while
GSPamelaEmmer: :)
GSPamelaEmmer: Re: the difference between internal and external control: one is motivated
by our heart's
MsAHS4ABF: ?
GSPamelaEmmer
: desires, and the other is motivated by what the world deems significant or
desires for/of us.

LLLChat1: So an example of that would be living to work or working to live?
GSPamelaEmmer: You've got it!
LLLChat5: ?Hou
LLLChat1: Go Ahead MsA.....
MsAHS4ABF: do cultural influences help or hinder the principals?
